Beans, Brews and Bells Up Package

EXPERIENCE HIDDEN GEMS OF ARTISANAL BEVERAGES

Let us, your trusty B&B innkeepers, help you find the hidden gems you long to discover on vacation. Yes, innkeepers are one of the best kept secrets to successful travel planning because we live here and play here!  At Chehalem Ridge Bed & Breakfast, we’ve taken this knowledge a step further by planning a day for you in wine country with our special Beans, Brews and Bells Up Itinerary Tour which will have you experiencing a variety of great drinks produced by local artisans who happen to be our neighbors.  Take advantage of the Willamette Valley’s Cellar Season when you can get up close and personal with the artisans of our area.

We’ll start your day off right with a gourmet, inventive breakfast in our dining room and then send you to your first tasting at Newberg’s Caravan Coffee. Here you’ll enjoy a private tour of their roastery where you’ll get a behind the scenes look at all sorts of coffee beans in various stages of their journey to become that amazing cup of joe you look forward to each day. Take a peek at their legendary San Franciscan Roasters, the impressive, hand-crafted machines that make artisan coffee roasting possible. Then, with their coffee flight, you’ll experience tasting one coffee brewed 4 different ways, discerning all the nuances in the bean brought out by the various techniques and equipment.

Next up, LONG Brewing, a small operation delivering big taste and winning awards along the way. Hailing from several generations of hops farmers, it’s no wonder Paul Long, a retired electrical engineer, makes his beer with such care, precision, and complexity. Standing amongst his brewery equipment, Paul will take you through a tasting of his available beers – from ales to lagers to stouts – to show you the science behind his brewing techniques and share what he can do differently because of his small batch style. He’ll blow you away and make you rethink what you think you know about one of the world’s oldest recipes.

After taking a break for lunch at a local cafe, you head to the final artisan tasting: Wine! And not just any wine, mind you, because it comes from Bells Up Winery, the kind of boutique winery you hope to visit when you come to Oregon’s wine country. Nestled in the foothills of the Chehalem Mountains, owner and winemaker Dave Specter invites you into his tasting room that doubles as his barrel room. Taste his hand-crafted wines with a view of their beautiful vineyard. While the vineyard is young, Dave produces a bright rosé from its harvest.  The pinot noirs, sourced from the Willamette Valley, are produced as a fruit-forward blend and as a couple of vineyard-specific bottlings. Dave also makes a well-balanced syrah from Walla Walla grapes. Producing just over 400 cases, Dave has his hands in every part of the winemaking process, so don’t be afraid to ask any questions about wine, winemaking, wine tasting or how they chose the Willamette Valley… that’s a good story!
